Molecular droplets vs bubbles: Effect of curvature on surface tension and Tolman length

چکیده
Droplets and bubbles are thought to be two sides of the same coin; this work determines how true is at molecular scale. Stable cylindrical nanodroplets nanobubbles obtained in Molecular Dynamics (MD) simulations with three-phase contact lines pinned by alternate hydrophobic hydrophilic patterns. The surface tension Tolman length for both types curved interfaces Kirkwood–Buff method, based on difference between normal tangential pressure components. Both bubble droplet cases compared flat interface case reference. Results show that decreases linearly while increases gas/liquid density ratio. By running a careful parameter study over range densities, effect ratio can corrected isolating effects curvature length. It found such start seen when equimolar radius goes down 20 reduced Lennard–Jones (LJ) units. They have magnitude but act opposite signs nanodroplet nanobubble interfaces. Considering curvature, fitted equation was obtained, which predicts interface. agree well those MD except very small (<10 LJ units) due accumulation dependence

Curvature-driven bubbles or droplets on the spiral surface
Directional motion of droplets or bubbles can often be observed in nature and our daily life, and this phenomenon holds great potential in many engineering areas. The study shows that droplets or bubbles can be driven to migrate perpetually on some special substrates, such as the Archimedean spiral, the logarithmic spiral and a cantilever sheet in large deflection. It is found that a bubble app...
متن کاملSize-dependent surface tension and Tolman's length of droplets.
A model for the size-dependent surface tension gammalv(D) of liquid droplets, free of any adjustable parameter, is presented in terms of the size-dependent surface energy gammasv(D). It is found that gammalv(D) drops monotonically with the size of the droplet in the nanometer region. Modeling predictions agree with computer simulations for sodium, aluminum, and water droplets. Meanwhile, the To...
